Make a simple checklist of bugs and animals you would see outside. Remember, not LIONS or DOLPHINS! Haha! They certainly don’t live in Red Bank! Then OUT you go to start searching. Check off your list and tally up your sightings!
Backyard Baking Soda Reactions
You will need a pan baking soda, vinegar , food coloring, a large measuring cup or bowl, and something to squirt out the vinegar -a turkey baster, eyedropper, water gun or even a straw.Start by adding food coloring in random dots to your pan. Cover with baking soda. Fill your squirters with vinegar. The easiest way to do this is to submerge the squirt guns in a bowl or large measuring cup full of vinegar. Then squirt the vinegar on the baking soda and see what happens!
Cloud Watching
You’ll need a partly cloudy day (preferably when the clouds are moving a little) and a towel or blanket.Go outside, lay down on your blanket, look up at the sky, and let your imaginations run wild! What shapes, animals, or objects can you find in the clouds? How many clouds can you count? What other stuff do you see in the sky (planes, birds…)? You could even draw what you see in the sky!
Make a Sound Map
Grab some paper, a clipboard or something hard to write on and a pencil. Find a spot in your yard or even on your steps. Put an x on the paper to represent yourself, and then...LISTEN! Write down what you hear and where it is coming from.
